Marari

Marari (formerly Mararikulam village) is a small town which is famous for its luminous beach spot. The town was a local fishing village a few decades back. It lies in the Alleppey district of Kerala and is situated about 11 km. from Alleppey city. This beach spot is an excellent place for a relaxing vacation. The spot is covered by soothing greens and gives you the opportunity for safe swimming, boat cruising and other beach activities & sports.

Marari provides several cottages and resorts with all the facilities for your accommodation, out of which many have facilities for Ayurveda/Yoga as well. Marari beach is famous for superb sand beaches backed by swaying palms. Being close to Alleppey, you can visit nearby beach destinations by a boat cruise. The long waterways of calm Arabian Sea and cool sea breeze gives you a unique experience of sun bathing.

Marari Beach Resort is the most famous resort which is located along the Marari beach. Although Marari is a standalone beach spot, it is heavily crowded during Christmas season.

The Marari Beach of today, a renowned tourist destination, was a local & unidentified fishing sea of Mararikulam village a few decades back. This beach spot is an excellent place for a relaxing vacation. Marari beach is famous for superb sandy beaches backed by swaying palms. Being close to Alleppey and Kumarakom, you can visit nearby beach destinations by a boat cruise. The long waterways of the calm Arabian Sea and cool sea breeze gives you a unique experience of sun bathing. Although Marari is a standalone beach spot, it is heavily crowded during Christmas season.

Marari has around 50 cottages and resorts with all modern facilities, and many  have facilities for Ayurveda/Yoga spaces. Marari Beach Resort is the most famous resort which is located along the Marari beach.

The climate is warm round the year and temperature varies from 28 to 33 degrees.

This beach is perfect for swimming, sun bathing and bicycle riding. Besides, you can spend quality time in sports like beach volleyball, surfing and boat cruising. You can visit the nearby coir making workshops for  an inside view of Kerala's culture.

Food
Like other beach destinations of Kerala, Marari is also famous for its sea food including fish, prawns, crabs etc. But the unique and luxurious way of serving the dishes distinguishes it from other spots. You would be seated alongside the beach or waterways and the food would be served in clay pots decorated over a tree bark, served with traditional spoons made of banana leaves.

Climate & Best Time To Go
The period between January-March is cool and dry. You should avoid the summer season (April-May)i, as it is really hot & humid. Either visit Marari during the monsoon period (June-Aug) as it is best for Ayurvedic treatments, or September-December, which is perfect for your vacations.

How to Reach
Marari is just 11 km. from Alleppey, and 30 km. from Kumarakom. So it is well connected with all major cities of Kerala. The nearest airport is at Cochin (80 km.). Another airport is at Thiruvananthapuram (160 km.). You can either hire a taxi from any of the locations or get into a bus to reach Marari. Besides, Marari has a railway station too.
